4/4/24
Well that's it then the Winter League has finished with 54 of the 55 matches having been played. A magnificent achievement by the teams given the weather of the past few months.
North Wilts completed the season with two wins against Chippenham and Marlborough and went unbeaten for the season. However Kingsdown, won more matches, had less halved matches and were able to score more points and therefore came out on top of the league.
Just the end of season get together next week at Tidworth to finalise the season.
Thanks to all players and Captains and we look forward to next year when, hopefully it will be a little dryer!
27/3/24
With just three of the fifty five scheduled matches left to play this years league was decided today at Kingsdown.
The home team required just 1.5 points to ensure that North Wilts couldn't catch them at the top of the league. Paul Dimonds team needed to win both of their remaining matches by 3-0 scoreline should Kingsdown slip up.
With some new players and a couple who have not played too much this year High Post put out a strong team that suggested they will be a force to be reckoned with next year, their position this year not doing them justice.
The home team hung on in there and with a halved result the title and trophy is heading north of the county.
Another match today saw Upavon beat Marlborough 2 - 1 to move up the league to one of their best finishes, more evidence of the overall strength of this league.
15/3/24
Well it's a two horse race now following North Wilts impressive 3 - 0 win at Kingsdown yesterday. A good match with Martyn Evans, Gary Watts & Simon Dymoke all impressing with their play.
Either Kingsdown (with one home match) and North Wilts (with two, one home, one away) will top the table at the end of the season and it will all depend on the scores in these three matches, great fun.
7/3/24
A couple of matches played this week and the fixture list and league have been updated. Keep your fingers crossed that we can get through to the end of the season without to much more rain.
2/3/24
I was quite wrong about the weather wasn't I? With snow on the ground this morning it would appear that the matches played this past week were completed none to soon.
With a 3 - 0 win against Chippenham, Kingsdown remain at the top of the league but being chased by both South Wilts and North Wilts who still have 4 games to play. Hopefully the weather will comply and we can look forward to a warm and dry spring!
18/2/24
Having said that the weather is improving it seems a bit premature with some more matches being rearranged.
However there has been a few games played in between the showers with both Tidworth and South Wilts making a move towards the top and North Wilts catching up.
Kingsdown still sit at the top with four matches to play but there is still plenty to play for.
1/2/24
The weather is improving rapidly and although still cold 4 of the 5 matches scheduled this week have been played. The only exception being Kingsdowns match against High Post that had to be postponed due to Kingsdown clubhouse being closed because Southern Electric shut down power to carry out replacement work on old poles.
With wins for Upavon over Hamptworth and West Wilts over Ogbourne both teams have moved swiftly up the table.
17/1/24
Happy New Year everyone we are back.
It would appear that this weeks fixtures have all been completed I'm pleased to say. With the rain eventually stopping and the courses drying out we have now been hit by the frost.
This is proper winter golf with every shot a lottery but with the sun shining it has been good to be out in the fresh air.
Kingsdown are continuing their good form with a very good away win at South Wilts, a battle all the way through. Tidworth as usual chasing for the title together with Chippenham and with North Wilts still with 7 matches to play a lot can happen before the end of the season.
7/11/23
With what appears to be a blank final week of the first half of the season, all the home courses suffering from the weather, we arrive at the Christmas break. Hopefully the new year will bring better weather/course conditions and we continue with our ever competitive league.
Wishing everyone a happy festive season, go careful and stay safe.
29/11/23
After a catch up match today with Kingsdown visiting West Wilts the latest League table and results are above.
24/11/23
The matches are coming thick and fast now, and with the weather generally behaving itself now we are managing to keep up with the schedule.
The league table shows Kingsdown at the top after four matches but a strong showing from Chippenham, who seem to be playing well away from their own track, and Ogbourne and South Wilts just half a point behind.
The title holders, North Wilts have a little catching up to do after only playing two matches but we can fully anticipate a run from them in due course.
Still a long way to go and with just 6.5 points covering the league who knows what may happen.
27/10/23
Well we are now 12 matches into the new season and already it would appear that it will be a close run thing for the title.
The weather has been kind so far although course maintenance appears to have taken it's toll with a couple of matches having to be rearranged.
After 3 matches Tdworth sit at the top of the league with Kingsdown and South Wilts close on their heals. With a total of 55 matches to be played there is a long way to go and no doubt a lot of stories to tell.
So here we go again then, the Seniors Winter Scratch League is off and running with three matches played this week.
Marlborough off to a fast start with a 3 - 0 win at home against Chippenham and the Tidworth / Ogbourne match and the Upavon / High Post match both resulting in the points being shared.
Lots of golf to be played and we look forward to another competitive, fun winter season
